Microwave Drawers Fit Many Situations!

by SandStar on February 21, 2012

Small kitchens, large kitchens, morning bars, islands, wet bars - they’ll fit almost anywhere! What are we talking about? Microwave Drawers!

Microwave drawers were originally marketed by Sharp, an industry leader in microwave oven design. Now, you can find them in the catalogs of Dacor, Viking, JennAir and Sub Zero/Wolf among others. The benefits of a drawer microwave are many, but most of all they clear up space on the countertop and offer accessibility for all generations and abilities. They’re offered in 24″ and 30″ wide styles and depending on the brand and model can be installed as an individual unit, as part of a cooktop/micro drawer combination or under a wall oven. Most are 1 cubic ft interior size whether 24″ or 30″ wide. The extra width in the 30″ models is purely decorative to match the 30″ cooktop or a 30″ walloven above.

One of the challenges of an above the range spacesaver micro is removing hot dishes over a hot surface. The potential for disaster, especially for the petite or elderly, is very real. With the drawer microwave unit, your dish is at a perfect height – just inches from the countertop – and you can stir your food without having to remove the dish from the drawer! The micro drawer has many of the same features as standard microwave models and they come in black, white and stainless finishes. As perfect as it is for children learning to cook, there is also a safety feature to “lock out” little hands when you don’t want them using it.

Some companies have models that offer push button controls to open and close the drawer. This is a very handy feature for folks that have dexterity challenges with using handles. The undercounter installation is also great for people confined to a wheelchair. They can easily access the front and interior and limit the amount of lifting that standard microwave ovens need.

So if there is a remodel in your future that includes a microwave cooking station, check out the specifications and features of this truly versatile appliance…then call SandStar Remodeling to help in your selection and design!
